Context and challenges

ArcelorMittal Downstream Solutions (AMDS), European leader in the distribution of high-performance steel products to B2B and B2C customers, decided to launch its first e-commerce web shop at the end of 2016. The aim was to:

  • Offer customers a more personalized and seamless experience that was capable of meeting mobility challenges, thus positioning the brand as an innovator.
  • Automate the sales process, reducing the number of paper documents, and giving customers easy access to information
  • Strengthen customer knowledge in order to personalise pages and enlarge their product range

SQLI’s Belgian office, was chosen to implement this Hybris commerce project and AMDS’s first website was launched at the end of June 2017 for the Colomiers office in France.

As the project had to be realized in less than 4 months, an agile methodology was chosen. SQLI collaborated closely with the Business, IT and Marketing departments at AMDS to put together a SCRUM team.

Functionalities were tested after each 3-week sprint, errors were ranked by order of importance and corrected.

SQLI successfully managed the UX, created a product catalogue and succeeded in presenting detailed personalised information in a highly intuitive way.

Following the success of this project, AMDS launched 7 more websites in France and plans were made for Belgium, Germany and Spain.

Everyone involved is now ready for a European roll-out and the chance to evolve the solution in order to meeting the changing needs of users.

  • Access to store and product information 24/7
  • A detailed online product catalogue and the possibility to order immediately
  • Order follow up with delivery and payment details
  • Order history and administrative documents
  • The possibility to return orders and to limit purchases per buyer/organisation and other B2B functionalities
  • Intuitive navigation and a contemporary-looking front office

We had an ambitious project and SQLI allowed us to win this challenge. With, we are now entering a new digital era
